SB0943, Ch. 751 - Vehicle Laws-Bus Lane Obstruction- Monitoring Systems Expansion and Workgroup (Better Bus Service Act of 2024)

  • As of October 1st, 2024, bus lane obstruction monitoring systems are in effect statewide.
  • The Chief Judge of the District Court shall adopt procedures for the issuance of citations, the trial of civil citations, and the collection of civil penalties. An agency, or agent or contractor designated by the agency, shall administer and process civil citations in coordination with the District Court.
  • Any Maryland law enforcement agency and/or their partnering vendor must submit their Statewide uniform citation and related documents package for approval and authorization for use by the Chief Judge of the District Court prior to the issuance of any warnings or citations. A participating vendor/law enforcement agency must have authorization and approval in each jurisdiction of intended use of a monitoring system prior to the issuance of citations.

Any questions regarding the ability to assess fees should be directed to the appropriate legal authority in their jurisdiction.
